A look at The Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter & Magick in the modern world.

By Richard Abanes

Published by Christian Publications in 2002. Paper back. 322 pages. Approx Size: 8.2 x 5.3 x 0.7 in

Should Christians be reading fantasy? Is there a difference between the magic & wizards in The Lord of the Rings & Harry Potter series? What about book burning or banning books? Isn't it better that children read Harry Potter or watch TV?

Abanes is a cult/occult expert. He is a fan of fantasy & science fiction. This book is an exposition of the themes, characters & spirituality in The Lord of the Rings & Harry Potter. Abanes looks at fantasy in it's positive & negative aspects. He uses child development information to show how fantasy affects children at various stages of development. He offers the information needed to make wise decisions about what children are reading.

Abanes never says that Christians should not read Harry Potter. Some of the fears that have been expressed about the occultic references in Harry Potter are valid, as some children have developed a interest in the occult because of Harry Potter. He has documentation that some children are more interested in the occult since reading Harry Potter. The most dangerous aspect, is Rowling & her supporters brush off reports about increased interest in the occult.

This book makes an in-depth comparison of The Lord of the Rings & Harry Potter. Abanes focuses on moral/religious issues, arguing that the magic in Tolkien is vastly different from the magick (the traditional occultic spelling for the term used when discussing witchcraft) in Harry Potter. Abanes answers questions about fantasy & Harry Potter & explains why the occult needs to be viewed as dangerous for children.

This books gives information about fantasy so informed decisions about what their children are reading can be made. Abanes offers information but allows us to make our decisions based on the facts. He urges parents to protect them from things which seek to harm them.
